Cristiano Ronaldo was named the greatest football player in the world as he won the FIFA Ballon d'Or award for 2013 at the FIFA Gala ceremony in Zurich on Monday (January 13, 2014). The Portugal international skipper reclaimed the trophy after beating out both France winger Franck Ribery and Barcelona's Messi. He scored 66 goals for Real Madrid and Portugal in 56 appearances last year.
Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t hold back his tears as he accepted the award with his young son beside him on stage. "First of all I have to say a great thanks to all of my team-mates with the club and the national team. Without all of their efforts this would not have been possible. I am very happy, it is very difficult to win this award,†an emotional Ronaldo said. "Everybody that has been involved with me on a personal level I have to thank. My wife, my friends, my son.
It is a tremendously emotional moment. All I can say is thank you to everybody that has been involved." It is the second time Cristiano Ronaldo has picked up the Ballon d'Or. The Real Madrid star last took home the award in 2008 during his time with Manchester United. He moved to Real Madrid in 2009 and was the runner-up to Messi for the Ballon d'Or in 2009, 2011 and 2012.

Cristiano Ronaldo was accompanied at the ceremony by his girlfriend Irina Shayk, who looked stunning in a black lace dress and matching heels.
